Cardiff Whales Swimming Club
The club is affiliated to the Halliwick Association of Swimming Therapy, which is an expert body in the teaching and promotion of water confidence for people with disabilities.
Welcome to our website.
We are always looking for new volunteers and we would be delighted to welcome you. Our club caters for anyone with a special need and most of our members are children.
Most of our volunteers are aged from 16 upwards and are often aiming to gain valuable experience for future careers or for specific awards such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Our swimming sessions are play-based, friendly, happy and relaxed - and our volunteers find the club really rewarding.
Swimming sessions last for an hour - usually from 3:00pm to 4:00pm each Sunday afternoon at Western Leisure Centre, Ely, Cardiff during Cardiff School term time.
We normally start with individual work, where each swimmer is supported by a volunteer in practising new skills and techniques. We then progress into game-based activities where techniques are reinforced in a larger group. All children work towards graded badges.
Volunteers will receive basic training in the Halliwick Method of Swimming Therapy, and there are opportunities to attend further courses.
All volunteers need to complete an application form and will need to be CRB checked.
Please e-mail swim.whales@yahoo.co.uk to register your interest.
The form, which can be downloaded below, must be brought, completed, to your first swimming session, but please feel free to come and watch a session before joining us.
